This is how the search in our maritime specialist database works

The use of the specialist database with maritime specialist articles is similar to searching in an Internet search engine. The Maritime Archives leave you a lot of leeway to adapt your research to your individual needs.

Whether simple searches or complex queries - with the help of Boolean operators, phrases and wildcards you can refine your search in the database. The following operators are available to you:

  • AND
  • OR
  • NOT

If you are searching for a term consisting of several words, you should signal this to the subject database by entering quotation marks. For example, if you are searching for specialist articles on the topic of Big Data, enter "Big Data" in the search field of the Maritime Archives.

The simple menu navigation makes the search accurate

Would you like to find an article that a certain author has written in a specific publication? Using uncomplicated menus, you can adapt your search in the Maritime Archives to your specific needs. You have various options.

1.    Author search

If you click on the small black triangle at the right end of the search field, a search field for authors opens.

In this case your research is limited to the author database. This means that you will receive hits for articles written by the author you are looking for.

2.    Narrowing the search pool

If you want to limit the search to specific specialist media, select "Publications" below the search field. The default setting "All" appears here. Use the drop-down menu to include the publications that are relevant to your search. You can also select the publication by clicking on the top-level menu or on the header.
